October Fun!

Let's cruise through October with a glimpse into some of the fun we had that month!

One of our favorite Wednesday activities is iPad time! The McDonough iPads are already programmed with awesome educational games. Students are introduced to games as a group, then have time to explore the app on the own. We practice letter writing, counting, and early reading skills… and sometimes we don't even know it! :)

We continued practicing and identifying shapes - specifically, the square, circle, rectangle, triangle and hexagon. We even tried to make them with our bodies!

We learned a LOT from the Cops and Kids Assembly, too! Manchester Police came to visit our school, and we got to meet a real police canine and touch lots of cool police equipment! It was such a great experience for students to meet real police officers and learn all about their important jobs.

We also have been working really hard in Fundations, a phonics program based on letter and sound recognition and early reading skills. The kids LOVE using the whiteboards to practice letter formation. We finished working on the lower case letters of the alphabet, and even fit in some words based on the letters we had already practiced!

We love having our friend, Mrs. Rider, come to visit! She is a retired science teacher and she brings lots of neat hands-on materials to share with us. She also knows sign language! We have so much fun with her, and can't wait to see what she'll bring to us each week!

We've had a lot going on this month! I'm so lucky to have such an awesome group of learners this year!
